Textos Completos Autorizados

Oxidative stress contributes to hypermethylation of Histone H3 lysine 9 in placental trophoblasts from preeclamptic pregnancies.

Oxidative stress contributes to hypermethylation of Histone H3 lysine 9 in placental trophoblasts from preeclamptic pregnancies.

Fuente:Frontiers in Endocrinology

Extracto: These findings are noteworthy and provide further evidence that increased oxidative stress in the intrauterine environment is likely a mechanism to induce aberrant histone modification in placental trophoblasts in preeclampsia. Moreover, CuZn-SOD and Mn-SOD expression/activity are possibly H3K9 methylation-dependent in placental trophoblasts, which further suggest that oxidative stress and aberrant histone modification have significant impact on placental trophoblasts/fetal programming in preeclampsia.

Nutritional status of primary school children and their caregiver's knowledge on malnutrition in rural and urban communities of Ekiti State, Southwest Nigeria.

Nutritional status of primary school children and their caregiver's knowledge on malnutrition in rural and urban communities of Ekiti State, Southwest Nigeria.

Fuente:Plos One

Extracto: Generally, the prevalence of malnutrition was high in both urban and rural primary school children in this study. However, while underweight and stunting were more prevalent among the children in the rural communities, wasting, overweight and obesity were more prevalent in the urban. The caregivers in both communities had good knowledge of malnutrition (better in the urban) but this is not good enough to bring a significant relationship with the occurrence of malnutrition in the children. Common predictors of malnutrition in both community settings are being in lower primary school class, relationship with caregiver, educational status of caregiver and occupation of caregiver. It is therefore recommended that regular continuous public enlightenment, nutritional education programmes and other programmes targeted at improving the economic power of the caregivers are measures that will improve the nutritional status of the primary school children.

Extracto: These findings suggest that women assigned to DMPA-IM may have a modest decrease in libido and sexual activity relative to the implant, and the implant relative to the Cu-IUD. We found more menstrual disturbance with DMPA-IM than with the implant (and as expected, both more than the Cu-IUD). These findings are important for informing the contraceptive choices of women and policymakers and highlight the need for robust comparison of the effects of other contraceptive methods as well.
