Textos Completos Autorizados

Salud Mental

What works to support carers of older people and older carers? an international evidence map of interventions and outcomes.

Fuente:Bmc Geriatrics

Tipo de trabajo:Revisión

Extracto: Evidence on what works best to support carers is extensive but limited in scope. A disproportionate focus on mental health and burden outcomes neglects other important areas where carers may need support. Given the impact of caring on carers' physical health, financial and social wellbeing, future research could evaluate interventions that aim to support these outcomes. Appraisal of whether interventions deliver equitable outcomes across diverse carer populations is critical.

Clinical experiences of guided tapering of antipsychotics for patients with schizophrenia- a case series.

Clinical experiences of guided tapering of antipsychotics for patients with schizophrenia- a case series.

Fuente:Bmc Psychiatry

Extracto: Reducing the antipsychotic dose increased emotional awareness in some patients (n = 4) helping them to develop better strategies to handle stress and increased feelings of recovery. Patients felt a greater sense of autonomy and empowerment during the tapering process, even when discontinuation was not possible. Increased awareness in patients and early intervention during relapse may prevent severe relapse. IMPACT AND IMPLICATIONS: Some patients with schizophrenia might be over medicated, leading to unwanted side effects and the wish to reduce their medication. The patients in our study illustrate how guided tapering of antipsychotic medication done jointly with the patient can lead to improved emotional awareness and the development of effective symptom management strategies. This may in turn lead to a greater sense of empowerment and identity and give life more meaning, supporting the experience of personal recovery.

Barriers and facilitators to implementing a multilevel, multicomponent intervention promoting colorectal cancer screening in health centers: a qualitative study of key informant perspectives.

Fuente:Bmc Health Services Research

Extracto: FQHCs provide essential primary care to millions of underserved patients in the U.S. and have the ability and motivation to provide screenings for colorectal cancer. Partnering with an academic institution to deliver a group-based, promotor-led CRC screening intervention for patients not up to date with screening could help increase screening rates. By identifying the specific barriers and facilitators to implementing CRC intervention, findings suggest that group-based, promotor-led interventions are a promising approach.

Sociodemographic disadvantage in the burden of stress and academic performance in medical school: implications for diversity in medicine.

Sociodemographic disadvantage in the burden of stress and academic performance in medical school: implications for diversity in medicine.

Fuente:Bmc Medical Education

Extracto: Our results echo historic trends in academic performance for racial and ethnic minority students, and we present recent evidence of academic performance disparities based on age at matriculation. Residency program directors continue to use test scores as a primary metric to screen applicants and thus, poor academic performance has profound consequences on career trajectory. Finally, significantly higher stress in the first-generation students may be evidence of underlying psychological distress. Expanding the sociodemographic diversity among physicians, and by extension, medical students, has long been recognized as fundamental to addressing inequities in healthcare. However, results from our study suggest that aspects of medical education are unfavorable and disadvantageous for first-generation, URM, and older medical students. A deeper understanding of the interplay between sociodemographic characteristics and success in medical school is paramount as we pursue diversity in medicine.
