ELEVATED INTRAVITREAL IL-1BETA AND IL-10 LEVELS IN PDR
In order to determine the roles of IL-1beta and IL-10 in the vitreous of PDR, we measured IL-1beta and IL-10 concentration by ELISA. We found vitreous levels of IL-1beta and IL-10 were upregulated in PDR patients, and these two cytokines play roles in regulating the development and progression of PDR..

BONE TURNOVER AND ARTICULAR CARTILAGE DIFFERENCES IN PATIENTS WITH KNEE OSTEOARTHRITIS
Subchondral bone cysts (SBCs) may contribute to knee osteoarthritis (OA) pathogenesis. SBCs within knee OA are characterized by focally increased bone turnover, altered bone structure and more severe articular cartilage damage. The increased bone turnover possibly contributes to altered bone structure localized in SBC areas, and thus aggravates articular cartilage degeneration..

RAPID CORRECTION RATE OF HYPONATREMIA AFTER LIVER TRANSPLANTATION
The correction rate of hyponatremia and fast correction rate of hyponatremia were significantly associated with post-transplant neurological complications. Rapid correction of hyponatremia was an independent risk factor for the development of post-transplant neurological complications..

ANTIPLATELET AND ANTITHROMBOTIC HERBAL COMBINATION WITH SYNERGISTIC EFFECT
Combinational preparations of Phyllostachys pubescens leaves (PL) and mume fructus (MF), and especially their 2:1 combination, can increase antiplatelet and anti-thrombosis effects more than PL and MF alone, offering evidence for a potential novel combination anti-thrombic therapy..

CARDIOPULMONARY RESUSCITATION: FROM THE PAST INTO THE FUTURE
Several important components of cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) have been determined with a lack of scientific basis. Additional investigations to determine the most effective CPR method are necessary to overcome current CPR controversies and introduction of internet or ubiquitous technology to resuscitation medicine is needed to improve the survival rate of cardiac arrest..

ENDOSCOPIC BOTULINUM TOXIN INJECTION: BENEFIT AND LIMITATION
Endoscopic treatment for achalasia is directed at disrupting or weakening the lower esophageal sphincter (LES). As botulinum toxin (botox) is a potent inhibitor of acetylcholine release from nerve endings. The response rates at 1 month following administration are 78% on average (range, 63%-90%)..

T2DM: DAPAGLIFLOZIN, METFORMIN XR, OR BOTH
In treatment-naïve patients with type 2 diabetes (T2D), initial combination therapy with dapagliflozin + extended-release metformin (MET XR) resulted in significant improvements in glycaemic and weight outcomes. Dapagliflozin + MET XR provided superior glycaemic benefits to monotherapy with either agent. The combination treatment was generally well tolerated..

QUALITY CONTROL AT THE ENDOPLASMIC RETICULUM TRANSLOCON
The essential Sec61 translocon brings proteins into and across the endoplasmic reticulum membrane. Little was known about how proteins blocking this channel are removed. New data reveal that the Hrd1 ubiquitin ligase degrades proteins that persistently and abnormally engage Sec61. This quality control pathway may also regulate low-density lipoprotein particle synthesis..
