Volatile anesthetics to reduce mortality in coronary artery bypass graft surgery

Volatile anesthetics agents have cardioprotective effects in experimental conditions, that may translate in improved survival in patients undergoing coronary artery bypass graft (CABG). Our clinical trial showed that use of volatile anesthetics was not associated with improved 1-year outcome as compared with total intravenous anesthesia.
