puntero.gif  RECENT ADVANCES IN AUTOIMMUNE PANCREATITIS
Autoimmune pancreatitis (AIP) is a peculiar type of pancreatitis that mimics pancreatic cancer. AIP is divided into type 1, a pancreatic manifestation of IgG4-related disease, and type 2 characterized by granulocytic epithelial lesion. As AIP responds dramatically to steroid therapy, accurate diagnosis is necessary in order to avoid unnecessary surgery.

Ambulatory arterial stiffness index (AASI) -calculated from 24 h ABPM- is a marker of arterial stiffness, predicting cardiovascular morbidity. After pediatric kidney transplantation (RTX) AASI is influenced by the dipping state, volume overload and time on dialysis. In hypertensive RTX children increased AASI characterizes the actual volume and pressure-dependent arterial rigidity.

 In patients diagnosed with acalculous cholecystitis on USG, it is difficult to decide on further course of action – medical Vs surgical. Cholescintigraphy findings of either non visualization of gall bladder or GBEF < 40% were used as pointers to select patients who would benefit from surgery.

puntero.gif  NEONATAL OUTCOMES WITH ORAL HYPOGLYCAEMIC USE IN WOMEN WITH MODERATE HYPERGLYCAEMIA
Metformin and glibenclamide were compared in women with moderate hyperglycaemia after Medical Nutritional Therapy in a South Indian population. Very low rates of neonatal hypoglycaemia was seen with use of metformin. Maternal glycaemic control was similar in both groups. Thus metformin is the preferred oral hypoglycaemic agent in gestational diabetes.

puntero.gif  BACTERIOPHAGE REDUCES BIOFILM OF STAPHYLOCOCCUS AUREUS EX VIVO ISOLATES FROM CHRONIC RHINOSINUSITIS PATIENTS
Bacteriophages have been identified in laboratory conditions to be effective anti-biofilm agents targeting the bacteria Staphylococcus aureus, including strains isolated from chronic rhinosinusitis patients. There is therefore potential for bacteriophage to be applied as a treatment against S. aureus sinonasal infections and biofilms in the context of chronic rhinosinusitis.

puntero.gif  ALTERED SUBCELLULAR DISTRIBUTION OF DISC1, CAMP LEVELS, AND NEURONAL MIGRATION IN SCHIZOPHRENIA AND BIPOLAR DISORDER
DISC1 (disrupted-in-schizophrenia-1) is considered a genetic risk factor for neuropsychiatric disorders. In this study, analysis in human olfactory neuronal precursors of schizophrenia and bipolar disorder patients showed decreased DISC1 levels in the cytoplasm, cAMP accumulation and diminished cell migration. The results suggest that these disorders share common molecular pathways that could hinder the neurodevelopmental process.
