  puntero.gif  PSYCHIATRIC MORBIDITY IN IDIOPATHIC TRANSVERSE MYELITIS
Consecutive patients with idiopathic transverse myelitis and first-episode stroke (30 each) underwent two-stage screening for psychiatric morbidity. A high prevalence of psychological distress, psychiatric morbidity (principally major depression), and cognitive impairment was found in idiopathic TM, comparable to that found among patients with stroke. This morbidity was associated with greater disability.

Diabetes mellitus is a systemic disease affecting the entire body including changes in oral mucosa. Quantitative cytomorphometric analysis of buccal squames of patients can be used as an verification tool for clinical diabetes. Thus, changes in nuclear area and the resultant nuclear cytoplasmic ratio of buccal epithelial cells are pathognomonic.

Fine needle aspiration cytology is a reliable, relatively atraumatic modality for preoperative diagnosis.
