Estudio in vitro, García-Cuerva M, Horvath L, Pinasco L, Ciparelli V, Tartacovsky H, Gualtieri A, Casadoumecq AC, Rodríguez P, González Zanotto C. AOL 30(1):33-38, 2017.

Abstract
The analysis of the simple linear regression in R language may be applied to the dental investigation and may enhance the information of the publication Root surface temperature variation during mechanical removal of root canal filling material. An in vitro study, García-Cuerva M, Horvath L, Pinasco L, Ciparelli V, Tartacovsky H, Gualtieri A, Casadoumecq AC, Rodríguez P, González Zanotto C, AOL 30(1):33-38, 2017. The registered temperatures on the root surface and the tested times of the mechanical removal of the fillings were extracted from Table 1 of the previous paper. In the original study the data was analyzed using the ANOVA of repeated measurements and the Tukey tests; a significant variation of temperatures at different times was found in all reamers. The aim of the present study is to show a statistical procedure to quantify the relationship between the variables described above. The obtained estimations were statistically based on the fact that the residues, corresponding to the temperature data of the experimental drills, were adjusted to the parametric assumptions. The highest regression coefficient was quantified with the drill P3, with which the temperature increased in 1.21ºC per second; whereas the lowest one was quantified with the G1 model, with a temperature increase of 0.4541ºC per second. Using the coefficients of all experimental models (0.4541 in G1; 0.6752 in G2; 0.7936 in G3; 0.6908 in P1; 0.7936 in P2; 1.21 in P3 and 0.7495 in F) the estimated average of the increasing value of temperature was 0.77ºC per second. A 47ºC body temperature may damage the tooth supporting tissues and a 43ºC periodontal ligament exposure may cause protein denaturalization. It is estimated that the G1 drill can reach up to 33.86ºC in 25 seconds (a temperature below the critical one). While it is estimated that with the P3 drill the above-mentioned critical temperatures are exceeded after 16 seconds. The R language, besides its free and easy availability in internet, facilitated the integral development of the lineal regression procedure between two series of quantitative data that adjusted to the parametric assumptions.
