Resumen
Este trabajo resume los hallazgos de una revisión de varios estudios que utilizaron el ensayo de captura híbrida II (CH II) para ADN de HPV con el fin de determinar la utilidad del empleo de la prueba de ADN de HPV para predecir neoplasia intraepitelial (CIN) grados 2-3 en las biopsias de mujeres que se presentan con células escamosas atípicas de significado incierto (ASCUS) en el extendido de Papanicolaou. Según nueve publicaciones, la sensibilidad del estudio de ADN de HPV para la detección de CIN 2-3 con ASCUS fue de 83% a 100%. El valor predictivo negativo de las pruebas de ADN de HPV para los tipos de alto riesgo fue de 98% o más. La especificidad varió entre 40% y 74%. Se identificaron tipos de HPV de alto riesgo en 31% a 60% de las mujeres con ASCUS, pero tal proporción disminuyó a medida que aumentaba la edad. El estudio de ADN de HPV con el ensayo CH II es útil para predecir la existencia de CIN 2-3 en mujeres con ASCUS, con lo que disminuye el número de pacientes derivadas para colposcopia.

Abstract
This paper summarizes the findings of a literature review of various studies using the hybrid capture II assay (HC II) for HPV DNA testing to determine the utility of using the assay for HPV DNA testing to predict CIN 2-3 on biopsy in women presenting with atypical squamous cells of undetermined significance (ASC-US) on Papanicolaou smear. Based on nine publications, the sensitivity of HPV DNA testing for the detection of biopsy confirmed CIN 2-3 with ASC-US was 83%-100%. The negative predictive value of HPV DNA testing for high-risk types was 98% or greater. Specificity ranged between 40%-74%. Between 31% and 60% of all women with ASC-US had high-risk types of HPV identified, with the proportion decreasing with increasing age. HPV DNA testing using the HC II assay is useful for predicting CIN 2-3 in women with ASC-US and result in fewer women being referred to colposcopy.
