El trabajo contribuye a entender cómo la respuesta inflamatoria inducida por diferentes bacterias patógenas puede provocar el trabajo de parto.

Cuando una bacteria alcanza la cavidad uterina durante el embarazo e interactúa con los leucocitos se desencadenan vías moleculares alternas que dependen del tipo de microorganismo, induciéndose la degradación de la matriz extracelular de las membranas fetales o la contracción uterina, debilitando de las membranas fetales y favoreciendo su ruptura.
